Score
Score is an extension of Kenosis, a project where I utilize the erasure and excision of the New York Times Newspaper to elicit a sacred experience of the everyday. The focus of the show is a screen-printed musical score derived from redacted NY Times pages following the Koran Burnings in Afghanistan February - March, 2012. In reference to oral traditions of communication and prayer, I’m using melody as a preservation system for information. Each score can be read or heard, performed and passed on as a chant. In this way, tragic media content is translated into sound and breath.
The show is comprised of archival inkjet prints and screen prints I completed during a keyholder residency at the Lower East Side Printshop in 2012. In addition, there are drawings, audio of the score and video of an interview/informal call and response that took place at the Soapbox Gallery in June 2012.
